Cynthia López is Executive Director NY Women in Film & Television, Former Commissioner NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.

Cynthia López is a former Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment in New York City, where she oversaw the Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting. Cynthia López led NYC Media, the city’s official TV, radio, and online network, and devised initiatives to boost film and TV production across the five boroughs.

During her tenure, the entertainment business in New York City boosted its direct annual spending from $7.1 billion to $8.7 billion, a 21 percent increase. The number of episodic television shows produced in New York City climbed from 29 to 46, while feature film production increased from 192 to 253.

López came to the City of New York after working at American Documentary | POV since 2000. She was previously executive vice president and co-executive producer of the award-winning POV (Point of View) documentary series, where she was in charge of all elements of the organization’s development, including working with important partners in education, public policy, and community development.

Her ability to form effective alliances between corporate and non-profit media has been a hallmark of her work. She came to the City of New York after working as executive vice president and co-executive producer of the award-winning PBS documentary series American Documentary | POV. Cynthia López is the original chairperson of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers’ board of directors (NALIP).

American Documentary (AmDoc), a national nonprofit media arts organisation, aims to make essential documentaries accessible as a catalyst for public dialogue.

Cynthia López is the executive vice president and co-executive producer of the POV series for American Documentary | POV. She is in charge of all elements of the organization’s growth, including programming, community participation and education, digital tactics, communications, and the series’ overall strategic management.

NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) was founded by Cynthia López, who also serves on the board of directors of Latino Public Broadcasting (LPB).

She has served on the Latin America Media Arts Fund of the Tribeca Film Institute, the 2012 Pare Lorentz Award Committee, the Sundance Documentary Fund Committee, and the Jerome Foundation panel. Harpo Studios, ABC News’ Nightline, Discovery Channel, Netflix, The Moth, The New York Times, StoryCorps, and WNYC have all formed unique relationships with her.
