Earl Boykins Biography and Career

Former American professional basketball player Earl Boykins. He is the second-shortest player in NBA history, behind Muggsy Bogues, who was 5 feet, 3 inches tall, standing at 5 feet, 5 inches. NBA Career

Earl Boykins was never selected in the NBA draft, but five different NBA clubs signed him to short-term contracts before he agreed to a five-year, $13.7 million deal with the Denver Nuggets before the 2003–2004 season.

Boykins was moved to the Milwaukee Bucks in January 2007 after playing for Denver for three complete seasons and a portion of a fourth.

He later completed the 2007–2008 season after signing with the Charlotte Bobcats in the middle of the year.

Boykins returned to the National Basketball Association in November 2009 when he signed with the Washington Wizards.

His one-year contract with the Bucks was signed on August 19, 2010. On March 26, 2012, Boykins agreed to a 10-day deal with the Houston Rockets. Since then, Boykins hasn’t competed in the NBA.

Italian League

Earl Boykins was an unrestricted free agent after the 2007–2008 NBA season. He chose to play basketball in Europe rather than the NBA, signing a one-year, $3.5 million net income contract with Virtus Bologna of the Italian A League.

By defeating Cholet Basket on April 26, 2009, his squad captured the EuroChallenge Cup. He was released by Virtus in June 2009.

The Basketball Tournament

Boykins participated in The Basketball Tournament on ESPN during the summer of 2017 for Paul Champions. Boykins assisted in guiding his team to two victories at the TBT Jamboree, which earned Paul Champions a berth among the 64 teams competing for the $2 million top prize.

Boykins and the Champions would eventually lose to the top-seeded Untouchables in the second round.

Earl Boykins was born in 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio. Boykins’ 5′ 8″ father, Willie Williams, used to smuggle him into the gym in his gym bag as a toddler. Boykins played in leisure leagues as a child alongside his father and other adult males.

Boykins led Cleveland Central Catholic High School to a 23-2 record as a senior and averaged 24.6 points per game while playing high school basketball there.

He was named the top high school basketball player in the Cleveland area throughout the 1990s by The Plain Dealer in 2015.

Earl Boykins received athletic scholarships from only two Division I basketball programs—Eastern Michigan and Iowa—though Iowa later withdrew its offer.
