Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was also an educationist, who did many works to improve the education level of India.

Radhakrishnan was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor in 1954 and was also nominated for the Nobel Prize 27 times. It is said that some students and friends of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan once asked him to celebrate his birthday, to which Radhakrishnan said, ‘If instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it is celebrated as Teachers Day. I would feel very proud.’ Since then, the celebration of Teachers Day started in India.
