Tanot Mata Mandir – Guide
Tanot Mata Mandir also known as Mateshwari Tanot Rai Mandir. This temple is the same temple that you have seen many times in the Bollywood movie ‘Border’. The Tanot Mata temple remained untouched despite heavy shelling by Pakistan during the Indo-Pak war of the year 1971.
Tanot Mata Mandir is located very close to the India-Pakistan border – and tourists are not allowed to go beyond this temple. According to the oldest Charan literature, Tanot Mata is a reincarnation of the divine goddess Hinglaj Mata, and Tanot Mata is believed to have become Karni Mata. Later, she is known as the goddess of feet.
History of this Temple
Goddess Tanot believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Hinglaz is located in the Laswela district of Balochistan. In 847 AD, the foundation of Tanot Devi was laid and the idol was installed. Bhati Rajputs have been taking care of this temple for generations. Earlier in 1965 during the Indo-Pak war, the bombs targeted by Pakistani army could not even touch the temple of Tanot Mata and even the bombs falling around the temple did not explode due to the divine power of Goddess Tanot.
