Kalkaji Mandir Delhi – Guide
Kalkaji Mandir is a popular and highly revered temple located in the capital city of India, Delhi. Let us tell you that this temple is situated in a place called Kalkaji and this place is named after the temple. Kalkaji Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kalka, one of the incarnations of Goddess Shakti or Durga.
Kalkaji Mandir Delhi is also known as Jayanti Peetha Manokamna Siddha Peetha which means that the Goddess fulfills the wishes of the devotees. The idol of Goddess Kalka situated in the temple is said to be self-manifested.
History of this Temple
The Kalkaji Mandir is said to have been present here for the last 3,000 years and it tells several legends about its origin. However, the oldest part of the temple was constructed in 1764. Temple Kalka Temple was built by the Maratha rulers in the late 18th century. It is believed that this temple is from the time of Mahabharata.
According to history, the Pandavas and Kauravas worshiped Goddess Kalka here during the reign of Yudhishthira. It is also believed that Goddess Kalkaji, who is known as Surya Koota Mata, appeared on this mountain after being pleased with the prayers and rituals performed by the gods at the behest of Lord Brahma and blessed her devotees. Since then this mountain is the abode of goddess Kalka and it is said that even today the mother fulfills the wishes of her devotees.
