Mayureshwar Ganpati Mandir Morgaon is one of the Vighneshwar Ashtavinayak temples The temple is one of the Ashtavinayak, eight revered temples of Ganesha in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The temple is the starting and ending point of the Ashtavinayak Yatra. The eleven steps of the temple have significance. Also, ‘Nandi’ in front of the temple is a symbol of spirituality.

History of this Temple

History tells that there was a prominent Ganapati saint named Morya Gosavi. He worshiped at the Mayureshwar Ganpati Mandir Morgaon before being shifted to Chinchwad. There he built a new temple. This temple, along with other temples near Pune, received royal patronage from the Brahmin Peshwa rulers.

According to the Ganesha Purana, Lord Ganesha incarnated as Mayureshwar, who had six arms and a white complexion. He was born in Treta Yuga with the aim of killing a demon named Sindhu. Lord Mor descended on the mountain and fought against Sindhu and later defeated her. Morgao Ganapati Temple’s other name is Moreshwara after Saint Morya Gosavi.
