Ethics commissioner of Canada: Criticism of a government by its citizens, the media, or any other government is one thing. However, one can only speculate the extent of wrongdoings when a government starts receiving criticism from its own officers that too in public.
Such is the situation of Canada right now. An official has disclosed information about the vast hypocrisy of the federal government.
What if I told you that the fundamental tenet of your government’s ideology is nothing but a falsehood that has been beaten into you for years? who is this official trying to show a mirror? And what precisely is happening in your government departments?
Mario Dion is the Ethics commissioner of Canada recently presented a report that MP Greg Fergus, who also serves as the prime minister’s parliamentary secretary, violated ethics rules when he wrote to the quasi-judicial Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to urge them to grant a television company mandatory carriage in Quebec.
A year after Natyf Inc. submitted an application to the CRTC for mandatory carriage in Quebec in 2020, Fergus, the chair of the Parliamentary Black Caucus, was approached for assistance by Natyf’s director. Fergus gave the business a letter in support of Natyf’s proposal in the summer of 2021, and the business filed it with its application to the CRTC in September of the same year.
Senior officials are expressly prohibited by ethics regulations from applying any kind of pressure or influence to a tribunal, a point that the Ethics commissioner of Canada has frequently emphasized in prior reports and in its website’s public guidelines.
As a seasoned MP and parliamentary secretary, Fergus should have understood he couldn’t attempt to sway the CRTC’s decision in any way. This is as simple as anticipating a famous mathematician to be familiar with Pythagoras’ Theorem.
However Fergus called his breach of the law as an “unintentional error” and that his goal was meant to “ensure that Black Canadians see themselves reflected in Parliament” through the letter of support.
Well, how much does it make sense to support someone by violating a law when you yourself are a member of the government?
Let me also tell you that Mario Dion released this report on the same day he announced he would step down from his position two years before the end of his term, citing “persistent health issues.”
Is it really a resignation, or does Mario recognize that he might have to face some consequences after his major revelations regarding important government figures?
Because this isn’t the first time Mario has done something like this. Before Fergus Report, he discovered a trade minister in violation of ethical laws a few months back. He blasted Mary Ng for personally getting engaged in awarding two contracts to a communications company run by her “close friend” and former Liberal staffer Amanda Alvaro in a report he published in December.
The trade minister simply moved away with situation by an apology without any actions being taken on her.

Starting From Trudeau’s 2017 Christmas trip, during which he violated three Conflict of Interest Act guidelines, to the high-profile Morneau II Report, in which Bill Morneau, Canada’s then-finance minister, was found to have broken three laws, to the Ng report, and finally to this Fergus report.
As the government’s corrupt practices spiral out of control after observing a disturbing “succession of mistakes” from senior government employees who are continuously breaking ethics laws, the Ethics commissioner of Canada is now requesting to the Prime Minister that all ministers and parliamentary secretaries should undergo ethics training.
“Over the last five years and on several occasions, I have observed senior officials being unaware of their obligations and mistakenly making assumptions,” Mario Dion said in a statement Tuesday.
These instances never seem to end, and the wrongdoings by the government appear to escalate with each passing day.
But finally, the ethics commissioner of Canada has stood up and pointed out the mistakes of the Trudeau government. But is it feasible that the cost of his bravery is his resignation? I’ll let you make the decision on that.
This is the reality of an administration that never misses an opportunity to flaunt how ethical and morally sound their “woke ideologies” are.
Trudeau government has been hit where it hurts the most. Mario has hit Trudeau on his woke ideology of ethics, respect and other woke agendas which he uses to portray himself as a liberal politician but after this expose Trudeau has nowhere to go.
