The mandir of Sitala Mata is about 70 km south of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Chaksu village is situated on a hill 300 meters high which is visible from a distance. Another name of this place is Sheel ki Dungri, one has to climb about 300 meters to have darshan of Mata.

History of this Temple

The Mandir of Sitala Mata located on Sheela ki Dungri is said to be 500 years old. There are many historical stories concerning the temple. According to the popular history related to the establishment of Sheetla Mata in Dungri, Sheetla Mata once thought to herself “Let us see who on earth worships her, who believes her? Sheetla Mata took the form of an old woman and reached the Dungri village of Rajasthan on earth and came to know that she has no temple and no one worships her.
