Kosi Kalan Shani Mandir – Guide
Famous Shani Dev temple is located in Kosi Kalan. This is an ancient temple of Shani Dev and his Guru Barkhandi Baba. Devotees from all over India come here to worship. A beautiful temple complex with an idol of Lord Shani carved in black stone, it is one of the best temples near Mathura and Vrindavan. The famous Shani Mandir, located near Kosi Kalan, is dedicated to Shani Dev and his Guru Barkhandi Baba. The temple is situated in the middle of the forest, hence it is also known as ‘Kokilavan Dham’.
History of this Temple
When Lord Shri Krishna was born, all the gods came to Nandgaon to see and bless the infant Krishna, Shani Dev came to Nandgaon but Lord Shri Krishna’s mother Yashoda refused to meet the newborn Krishna as she was afraid that Shani His son will feel bad if he sees Dev.
Lord Shri Krishna being pleased with his penance met Shani Dev in the form of his temple and said that whoever visits Kokilavan Dham or Shani Dev Temple Mathura will get rid of all his worries. The original temple of Lord Shani Dev still exists in Kokilavan Dham of Kosi Kalan, about 10 kilometers away from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. The temple is situated exactly where Lord Krishna appeared in the dense forest.

Kosi Kalan Shani Mandir open for 24 hours although the best time for prayer is from 8:00 AM in the morning to 9:00 PM in the evening.
