Nag Devta Mandir Uttarakhand – Guide

Nag Devta Mandir is very famous temple in Uttarakhand. He can be called ‘Snake God’. Nag Devta Temple is a popular temple located in Berinag village of Chaukori, Uttarakhand. This Nag Devta temple is situated on the top of the Berinag hills. This place is very famous for its snake temples. Berinag is also one of the major temples dedicated to the serpent god. This Nag temple is one of the most popular temples dedicated to the many incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

History of this Temple

The city was a major place of worship for the rule of the Chand dynasty. When the pants of Maharashtra, as the local people refer to, came to settle in this city, they saw a large number of snakes of different colours together. After this incident in the 14th century, they built a Nag Devta Mandir in Uttarakhand.

It was believed that a poisonous snake lived in the Yamuna town named Kalinaga in Vrindavan, which was defeated by Lord Krishna. Kalinaga recognized the greatness of Lord Krishna and surrendered. Lord Krishna ordered Kalinaga to leave the river Yamuna and go somewhere else. After this Kalinaga left the river Yamuna and went to reside in this region of Berinag.
