History of this Temple

After the Kurukshetra war, Sage Veda Vyasa was searching for peace and reached Basara situated on the banks of river Godavari in Dandakaranya. He found the place very peaceful and so he started meditating here. The goddess ordered the sage to pour three handfuls of sand at three places every day. Miraculously these sand dunes were transformed into idols of the divine trinity i.e. Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali. She is the presiding deity of Basar today. This place was earlier known as Vyaspuri but later it was changed to Basara or Basar.
