Someshwar Mahadev Mandir Prayagraj – Guide

The Someshwar Mahadev Mandir in Prayagraj is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage centers in India. Its exact location is at Naini across the holy river Yamuna in Allahabad. This temple is very ancient and is situated opposite the Allahabad Fort across the Sangam in the Arail area.

Triveni Sangam in Allahabad is an important religious point as it is the point where Saraswati, Ganga and Yamuna meet. Someshwar Mahadev Temple is near Triveni. There is a small but beautiful Hanuman temple next to the Someshwar Mahadev temple.

History of this Temple

Someshwar Mahadev Mandir Prayagraj is counted among the 8 main deities of Prayag, so the pilgrims and devotees coming to the Mahakumbh festival first visit Someshwar Mahadev. The Kumbh Mela is sometimes held at Someshwar and the grand temple is easily visible from the Mela grounds.

Incidentally the Kumbh Mela of 2017 will be held in Someshwar Mahadev Mandir Prayagraj. There are many other important religious places around Som Tirtha like Ram Tirtha, Hanuman Tirtha, Sita Kund etc. and evidence of these are present in Hindu scriptures but nowadays it is difficult to trace them due to lack of awareness about their religious importance.
