Vindhyachal Temples are famous for Goddess Vindhyavasani, one of the nine goddesses of Hinduism and one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. The Vindhyavasani Durga Mata Mandir is located in the Vindhyachal town close to Mirzapur and Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. There are many scenic temples built near Vindhyavasani Devi Temple, whose darshan is taken advantage of by a large number of devotees. Due to the proximity of the city of Mirzapur to the Goddess Ganga, the euphoria increases further.

History of this Temple

The generosity of Vindhyachal and Goddess Vindhyavasani has been mentioned in many ancient scriptures and texts of India. Some of these special texts are found in Markandeya Purana, Matsya Purana, Mahabharata, Vamana Purana, Devi Bhagavata, Raja Tarangini, Brihat Katha, Harivansh Purana, Skanda Purana, Kadambari and many Tantra Shastras. Especially in the Markandeya Purana, a detailed description of the war between Goddess Durga and Mahishasura is seen.

Kankali Devi Mandir

The scenic Kankali Devi Temple of Vindhyachal got its name from Kankal, which means skeleton or Maa Kali. It is said that in order to destroy the demons, Goddess Durga took the form of Goddess Kali and destroyed the wicked.

Ramgaya Ghat

The famous Ramgaya Ghat of Vindhyachal is at a distance of about 2 kilometers from Vindhyachal. Lord Rama is believed to have prayed at this place for the peace of the souls of his parents. Ram Gaya Ghat attracts tourists towards itself.

Ashtabhuja Temple

The famous Ashtabhuja Temple of Vindhyachal is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati who is the goddess of literature, learning and wisdom. It is believed that Ashtabhuja Devi was born as the sister of Lord Shri Krishna whom Asuraraj Kansa tried to kill.

Sita Kund

Sita Kund, is the place where Shri Lakshman pierced the ground with his arrow to quench the thirst of Mother Sita during the exile period, from where water was received and Mother Sita quenched the thirst of her throat with this water. This place became famous by the name of Sita Kund.
