Kalbhairav Mandir Ujjain – Guide
The temple of Kaalbhairav or Bhairav Baba is situated on the banks of Shipra river. The Kaal Bhairav Temple is dedicated to Mahakal or Bhairav, a form of Lord Shiva, the ‘guardian deity’ of the city. The Kalbhairav Mandir has immense religious significance among Hindus, making it one of the major religious places in Ujjain. Where hundreds to thousands of devotees come every day to seek the blessings of Kaal Bhairav. Liquor is offered to the idol of Kaal Bhairav in this temple as a part of tantric rituals.
History of this Temple
The history of Kalbhairav Mandir Ujjain is believed to be about 6000 years old, but till now no concrete evidence has come to the fore. But the Kaal Bhairav temple is said to have been renovated by the Parmar kings about 1000 years ago.
Only the old material of the temple was used for this construction work and this temple is still in the same condition. A few years ago, to find out the mystery in this Temple, the British officer had done a lot of digging around the idol of Baba Kaal Bhairav, but in spite of that this mystery could not be found out.
