Titwala Siddhivinayak Mandir – Guide

Siddhivinayak Mandir is one of the ancient Hindu temples located in Titwala, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The Siddhivinayak Temple boasts of magnificent architectural style from the period of Mahabharata. This temple is popularly known as “Titwala Ganesh” and is filled with devotees on Tuesdays and Chaturthi.

History of this Temple

Shakuntala built Titwala Siddhivinayak Mandir during the period of Mahabharata, we can find samples of ancient architecture. Once King Dushyant was passing through the forest for his war campaign, he fell in love with Shakuntala. Both were married according to Gandharva rituals. Due to unrest in his kingdom Gandhara, Dushyanta had to leave.

Before leaving he gave a ring which is believed to be the royal seal and promised to return. When Shakuntala was dreaming about her husband she forgot to pay attention to sage Durvasa, in turn the sage cursed her that her husband would forget her and would not return.

After accepting his apology she reduced her curse and said that Dushyant would recognize her after showing her the symbol of love. Meanwhile, sage Kanva, Shakuntala’s father, established the idol of Siddhi Vinayaka and told him to build a temple and worship it with devotion. God bless you and join her husband.
