Kela Devi Mandir – Guide

Kela Devi Mandir is a holy temple of Goddess Kela Devi and is considered as one of the 9 Shakti Peethas, which are very special holy places of abode of Goddess Durga. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kaila Devi, a mother goddess who is considered the guardian angel and protector of humanity. The temple is located in the state of Rajasthan, on the banks of the river Kalisil, amidst the Aravalli hill ranges, in Kaila Devi village of Karauli district, about 23 km from the nearest town of Karauli.

History of this Temple

Kela Devi Mandir was built by the Rajput kings of Karauli Kingdom in the 18th century. Its foundation was laid by Maharaja Gopal Singh Ji in 1723 AD and the construction was completed in 1730. Apart from installing the main idol of Kaila Devi, the king also installed the ancient image of Chamunda Devi brought from Gagraun Fort.
