History of this Temple

History of Tarkulha Devi Mata Mandir belongs to 163 years old. Babu Bandhu Singh of Dumri princely state used to worship Goddess by setting up pindis under a palm tree on the bank of the river. Tarkulha Devi was the presiding deity of Babu Bandhu Singh. Babu Bandhu Singh was arrested by the British for beheading the British, then appeared in the court, in which he was sentenced to death. On 12 August 1857, Babu Bandhu was hanged in front of all the people at Ali Nagar intersection in Gorakhpur. The British government had hanged him but the British did not succeed.
