Kailash Mansarovar Temple – Guide
Kailash Mansarovar is such a holy place which is known all over the world for its religious importance. Kailash is a mountain which is about 21,778 feet tall. Mount Kailash is situated in the south-west corner of Tibet amidst the mighty Himalayan ranges, which is considered one of the highest places in the world. This huge mountain is also the source of four mighty rivers of Asia including Brahmaputra, Ganges, Indus and Sutlej. Kailash Mansarovar is one such religious place which gives you an opportunity to know yourself and change during your journey.
History of this Temple
Mount Kailash along with Lake Mansarovar has a historical significance of its own. Manasarovar is made up of two words – ‘Manas’ meaning mind and ‘Sarovar’ meaning lake. According to Hindu beliefs, Mansarovar Lake was first created in the mind of Lord Brahma, due to which it got its name Mansarovar. According to Hinduism, Mount Kailash was the place where Lord Shiva used to reside and hence this place is considered as heaven.
According to the beliefs of Tibetan Buddhists, Mount Kailash was the abode of Buddha Demchok who represents harmony. Similarly, according to Jainism, Mount Kailash is also called Mount Ashtapada and it was at this place that Rishabhdev, the founder of their religion, attained liberation from the cycle of birth and rebirth. Mansarovar Lake is a very beautiful place which is situated at a distance of 20 kms from Mount Kailash at an altitude of 20,015 feet.

Tirthpuri
Where the cross pilgrims take a bath in the spring pools after completing their journey. This place is also comes in the way to Mansarovar.
Gauri Kund
Known as the lake of compassion. This kund is located in the way of Mansarovar.
Yama Dwar
This is the starting point of the journey. This place is located at a distance of about few kms away from the temple.
Asthapad
Which is the base of Kailash and Tarboche, you will find many prayer flags at this place. This place holds importance in relation to Tibetan spirituality.

By Train- The nearest railway station from Kailash Mansarovar Temple is Dehradun railway station which is at a distance of about few kms away from the temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.
By Road- Roads to this temple are well connected with the other cities of the as you have to first reach Nathula pass and from here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services.
