Anthoor Muthappan Temple – Guide

Anthoor Muthappan Temple is a temple located in Parassinikadavu in Anthoor which is about 10 km away from Valapattanam on the banks of river Taliparamba and 16 km away from Kannur city in Kannur district, Kerala. The main deity of this temple is Sri Muthappan which is a form of Lord Shiva. Muthappan is believed to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva himself in the hunter form.

History of this Temple

It is believed about the deity of Anthoor Muthappan Temple that deity do most of all he struggled to protect the downtrodden and the weak. Country liquor and fish are offered to Lord Muttappan deity and it is distributed among all their devotees. That temple also for Theyyam. It is considered famous and it is also a ritual art and it is performed daily.

The main festival celebrated in Anthoor Muthappan Temple is Puthari Vellattu. This festival is celebrated in the month of march. Another festival celebrated in this temple is Puthari Thiruvappana which is the festival associated with harvest season of the region.

Anthoor Muthappan Temple opens at 5:30 AM in the morning and close at 10:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 7:00 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 9:00 PM in the evening.
