Sri Sharadamba Temple – Guide
Sri Sharadamba Temple is one of the holy temple which is dedicated to Maa Saraswati and is located in the city of sringeri, Karnataka. This temple of Maa Saraswati was built during the period of 8 th century. This temple was founded by Adi Shankaracharya. At that time the standing statue of Maa Saraswati is established in this temple which is made up of sandal wood. Later on this sandal wood statue was replaced by the vijaynagar Empire with the sitting gold statue of Maa Saraswati.
History of this Temple
According to history it is believed that lord Shiva have envisioned this place as the most sacred place where a snake covers a pregnant frog as a canopy to protect it from the hot sun during its delivery. To commemorate this event, there is an idol known as Kappe Shankara on the steps of the Tunga River. It is also believed that this was the first place where lord Shiva established one of the four major monasteries.
According to Hindu beliefs, this place is also associated with Rishyasringa, son of Vibhandakamuni. He used to do penance at this place after which this place is known as sringeri. During the period of vijaynagar Empire in 1916 this Temple was again re- established and come in existence.
Best time to visit Sri Sharadamba Temple
Navratri festival is celebrated with great joy and happiness in this temple. This festival is celebrated in the month of September or October for 9 days.
Sri Sharadamba Temple Timings
Sri Sharadamba Temple opens from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the morning and from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 7:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 8:00 PM in the evening.
