Canada has found a taker for the giant Russian plane it seized a year back, and it’s none other than Ukraine. The Antonov An-124, capable of carrying up to 150 tons of cargo, is a behemoth of the skies, and Ukraine has just agreed to take it off Canada’s hands. While it may seem like a strange choice for the Ukrainian government to take on such a massive plane, it makes perfect sense in the context of their current geopolitical situation.

Ukraine has been facing ongoing conflict with its neighbor to the east, Russia, since 2014 when the annexation of Crimea occurred. The conflict has resulted in the loss of life, displacement of people, and ongoing tension in the region. In this context, the acquisition of the Antonov An-124 can be seen as a show of force against Russia.

The Antonov An-124 is a powerful and versatile aircraft that can transport heavy loads over long distances. Its size and payload capacity make it ideal for military transport, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief operations. For Ukraine, a country that has been struggling with ongoing conflict, natural disasters, and political instability, having such an aircraft at their disposal is a significant asset.

Moreover, Ukraine has been involved in the conflict against Moscow for a long time and has suffered significant territorial and military losses. So the Antonov An-124 might facilitate in reviving the zeal of the Ukrainian military which has endured massive suffering due to Zelensky’s false assurances.

In conclusion, Canada and Ukraine are under the illusion that the acquisition of the Antonov An-124 by Kyiv is a strategic move that could potentially provide it with a significant advantage in the ongoing conflict with Russia. However, geopolitical analysts and experts know that the reality is far from different.

So, it remains to be seen how Ukraine, which has made recurrent blunders, will use this aircraft.
