US attorney Breon Peace who was responsible for the fraud indictment allegations against the Indian multi national conglomerate, the Adani Group, has announced his resignation, which will take effect on January 10. Just a few days before Donald Trump becomes president on January 20, Peace, who was appointed by US President Joe Biden in 2021, will step down.
During his term, Peace has given several famous judgements related to high-profile cases. He secured the guilty plea of former Republican U.S. Representative George Santos for fraud, won the conviction at trial of a former Goldman Sachs (GS.N), opened a new tab banker related to the looting of a Malaysian development fund, and got French cement maker Lafarge to cough up $778 million for making payments to groups designated as terrorists.
Along with these, Peace convicted Adani in November for allegedly defrauding US investors by concealing a bribery plot to secure Indian government contracts; however, the Adani Group rejected the charges as “baseless”. Then, on November 30, Gautam Adani responded to the charges, saying that the legal situation involving the US Department of Justice is a problem that the Group has faced “not for the first time”.
Soros Connections
The speculated reason behind the resignation of Peace looks related to Trump’s return to the White House. The federal prosecutor’s involvement in the indictment of Republican leaders may have caused friction with the president-elect. He was also perceived to be close with the Biden administration. Breon Peace, 53, was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was nominated by President Joe Biden in 2021 and will step down before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20.
Breon Peace is also reported to have links with controversial billionaire and regime change specialist George Soros. Breon Peace’s spouse Jacqueline Jones-Peace is the Director of Development & Senior Attorney at Equal Justice Initiative, which is based in Montgomery, Alabama. The non-profit and human rights organisation was founded by Bryan Stevenson who also serves as its Executive Director. However, the interesting part is that he is also a member of the Open Society Foundations US Programs board, which establishes an evident relationship between the couple and George Soros.
Majority Leader of the United States Senate Chuck Schumer, who had longstanding ties to George Soros and his family, publicly supported Breon Peace’s judicial appointment and played a key part in it in 2021. Chuck Schumer supports a number of Soros family initiatives. Left-wing billionaires, including George Soros, had contributed significantly to a super political action committee (PAC) supporting Chuck Schumer in order to help the attempts made by the Democratic Party to maintain Senate control ahead of the 2024 election.
Breon Peace will be resigning as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York on January 10, 2025. Peace has served in the position since October 15, 2021. First Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn Pokorny will become Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York upon his departure.
