US Vice President JD Vance, along with Second Lady Usha Vance, is set to visit India later this month, according to a Politico report. This will be Vance’s second foreign trip as VP, following his visit to France and Germany last month. Usha Vance, whose parents are of Indian origin, has familial ties to the country.
The visit coincides with ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations, particularly concerning tariffs. Recently, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized the high tariffs imposed on American products by several countries, including India. She highlighted that India imposes a 150% tariff on American alcohol and a 100% tariff on agricultural products, making exports challenging. US President Donald Trump also voiced similar concerns last week, stating that selling goods to India is “next to impossible” due to these high tariffs.
In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with JD Vance and his family during the AI summit in Paris. Their meeting also included a special moment—celebrating the birthday of Vance’s son, Vivek. Modi shared his joy in being part of the occasion and described their conversation as insightful. Vance expressed his gratitude, appreciating Modi’s hospitality and the gifts for his children. Among the gifts was an eco-friendly wooden alphabet set for Vance’s daughter, Mirabel Rose Vance, promoting both learning and sustainability.
