A newly intercepted encrypted transmission believed to have originated from Iran has sparked concerns among Western intelligence agencies that Tehran may be attempting to activate covert operatives abroad following the reported death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
According to reports citing U.S. intelligence sources, the coded signal was detected shortly after Khamenei’s death on February 28. The transmission, which was reportedly broadcast repeatedly from a mysterious radio station, is believed to have been intended for clandestine recipients who possess the encryption key necessary to decode its instructions. Authorities suspect the message could serve as an operational trigger for so-called “sleeper assets” — covert operatives embedded in foreign countries who remain inactive for long periods until they receive specific commands.
