On September 15, Massachusetts reported 8 COVID cases among vaccinated individuals, 5 hospitalizations and 5 deaths. Since January 21, when the first resident was vaccinated, there have been 9 percent hospitalizations and deaths among vaccinated residents. Although this is not a direct comparison, it appears that the groundbreaking COVID infection rates, hospitalizations, and deaths among vaccinated individuals are higher in Rhode Island than in any other state in New England.
A study by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Massachusetts General Hospital compared data from all 50 states and found that wearing a mask can reduce new COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

Steps taken by the authorities:
According to state Department of Health data, ninety-two health facilities across Rhode Island, including 35 nursing homes, 15 assisted living facilities and seven hospitals, were given 30 days until October 31 to comply with the state requirement that 100% of their staff be vaccinated. The state’s major theater groups have introduced mask regulations as well as vaccination requirements.
Problems being faced about reporting cases due to lack of coordination by authorities:
There are often delays in recording reported cases because local health authorities focus on vaccine reporting. It has been said that these public health agencies can shift their focus to vaccine reporting and stop reporting cases within 24 hours. The government can also revise data reported on a single day when there is a large increase in cases or deaths on an unspecified day, and historical revisions can lead to irregular patterns in the figures reported on a daily basis.
Hospital admissions for COVID-19 patients in the state totaled 95, down from 97 the day before. Of those, 16 were in intensive care and seven were on ventilators. The first dose of the Moderna COVID -19 vaccine in Rhode Island was distributed to Newport Hospital and Miriam Hospital in Rhode Island. Rhode Island hospitals such as Miriam Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital have relaxed their visiting regulations as the number of new cases of coronavirus continues to fall in the state. Large number of new COVID cases in Rhode Island had put a significant strain on the already understaffed hospital system. Rhode Island hospitals, especially the Landmark Medical Center, reported an increase in ambulances diverted this year to other hospitals because of overcrowding in emergency rooms, state data from the Department of Health show.
