According to his twitter account Call Doug is an Associate Professor at NC State; microbiological and electrochemical approaches to clean water, recover resources from waste, and make new resources from air.
His researches are focused on biological and electrochemical principles to remove contaminants from water, recover energy and nutrients from wastewater, and generate valuable resources such as freshwater and fixed nitrogen.

Dr. Call Doug is a Regents professor at WSU’s Paul G. Allen School for Global Health and a professor of molecular epidemiology. He was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2014 for his contributions to food and water safety, particularly via the study of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in agricultural systems (including aquaculture).
Dr. Call Doug has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and has ongoing antibiotic-resistance research projects in the United States, Tanzania, Kenya, Brazil, and Guatemala, with funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the USDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Allen School.

He has consulted on antibiotic resistance for the Gates Foundation and the Fleming Fund, and he was recently elected to the Washington State Academy of Sciences. Dr. Call Doug is a member of the Pacific Northwest Antimicrobial Resistance Coalition, the Washington State Antimicrobial Resistance Working Group, and the American Society for Microbiology’s Antimicrobial Resistance Steering Committee.
He has served on grant evaluation panels for the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the USDA, the USDA-ARS, and other foundations. He was recently honored with the 2017 Washington State University Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award for Research, Scholarship, and the Arts, and was chosen to deliver the Distinguished Faculty Address in 2017. Dr. Call Doug was elevated to Regents professor in July 2019.
