Johannes Vetter is a javelin thrower who competes for Germany. At the World Athletics Championships 2017, he won gold. Career and Tokyo Olympic

His personal best of 97.76 meters is the German record, and he is currently ranked second in the world. Vetter is a part of LG Offenburg’s track and field squad and trains under Boris Obergföll. He formerly played for Dresdner SC and SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken.

Johannes Vetter was a gold medal favorite for the 2020 Olympics. His best throw in qualification Group A was 85.64 meters, placing him second behind India’s Neeraj Chopra.

Johannes Vetter breezed to the Olympic final, where his first throw was a disappointing 82.52 m, but he purposely moved out of the line in his following two throws, resulting in his highest throw of 82.52 m and a 9th-place finish.

He didn’t make it to the finals because his qualification group opponent Neeraj Chopra won gold, with Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely taking silver and bronze, respectively.

Johannes Vetter is a Dresden native who grew up in the city. In 1941, his granddad was born in Chorzów. Vetter joined the Saxony State Police after receiving his Abitur and has been a Sport Soldier since September 2014.

At the Kuortane Games in Finland, Vetter threw the javelin to a personal best of 88.23 meters, topping the competition and surpassing the Olympic entry criteria (83.00 meters) by five meters.

He won the German Championship in July 2017 with a throw of 89.35 meters.

He won gold at the World Championships in London in August 2017 with a throw of 89.89 meters.

Johannes Vetter participated in the European Junior Championships in 2011. With a throw of 65.87 meters, he placed 12th in the final.

Vetter competed in the European U23 Championships in July 2015. He came in fourth place with a javelin throw of 79.78 meters.

Vetter, Julian Weber, and eventual gold medallist Thomas Röhler represented Germany at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Johannes earned gold at the European Throwing Cup in March 2018, throwing 92.70 meters, twelve meters clear of second place.

In September 2019, Vetter was a member of Team Europe at The Match Europe vs. USA. With a throw of 90.03 meters, he won gold, his best performance since May 2018.
