Test century
Dean Elgar scored his first Test century against New Zealand on January 12, 2013. With Graeme Smith’s retirement, Elgar gained a regular opportunity in his specialist position at the top of the order in Test cricket.
Elgar scored 103 against Sri Lanka on 16 July 2014, and then 121 against the West Indies at St George’s Oval, where he scored nearly half of his career international test runs and had the most fifties.

Captaincy
Dean Elgar batted for the third time in his test career on March 23, 2018, against Australia, when South Africa was bowled out for 311 in the first innings of the third test, equaling the record set by Desmond Haynes of the West Indies.
With this accomplishment, he also became the only batsman to carry his bat in a test match innings twice in a single calendar year.
Domestic Cricket
Elgar was named to the Tshwane Spartans squad for the 2019 Mzansi Super League tournament in September 2019.
He was named to the Northern squad in April 2021, ahead of the South African cricket season 2021-22.
Elgar was named Titans captain for the 2021-22 CSA T20 Challenge in February 2022.

Dean Elgar was selected for the Sri Lankan One-Day International series in early 2012 but had to withdraw due to injury.
He made his ODI debut against England in a rain-affected match, but found success in his second match, scoring 15 before being bowled by Graeme Swann. Elgar caught Craig Kieswetter off his third delivery in ODI cricket, bowling his left-arm spin.
