Last winter, Canadians took to the streets to protest Trudeau’s authoritarianism. And what did Trudeau do? He resorted to invoking the Emergency Act unlawfully in the country.
But only now Justin Trudeau has come up with some amusing revelations. He acknowledged some infighting within the Liberal party throughout the freedom convoy protests.
The mass demonstration of February that led Trudeau to utilise previously untapped emergency powers to stop the protests received worldwide criticism. And PM Trudeau has now acknowledged that different levels of government involved in trying to bring an end to the protests in Ottawa and several border crossings were not always on the same page.
The essential thing, he claims, is that the city, the province, and the federal government ultimately worked together, particularly when it came to the choice to use the federal Emergencies Act in the middle of February to put a stop to the weeks-long events.
There were “of course” moments during the unfolding of the convoy when governments “weren’t working as tightly as would have been ideal,” said Trudeau. “But the important thing is that we all stood together and put Ontarians and Canadians first and we resolved the situation.”
His remarks come a day after evidence suggested that, roughly 10 days into the convoy, Trudeau did not believe Ontario Premier Doug Ford was showing up to assist in terminating it, according to the findings of the public inquiry into the use of the federal Emergencies Act.
“Doug Ford has been hiding from his responsibility on it for political reasons as you highlighted,” Trudeau told Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson. “Doug Ford invoked his emergency act. We invoked our Emergencies Act,” that is what Trudeau said.

Earlier, it was already visible how the Mayor of Ottawa disowned Justin Trudeau ahead of his crucial time. Jim Watson passed the blame for the emergency on to Justin Trudeau and stressed in front of the Public Order Emergency Commission that neither he nor the City of Ottawa requested the invocation of the Emergency Act. Watson made it clear that he was neither consulted nor advised of the federal government’s intention of using the unprecedented measure.
Not only this but Watson and Trudeau are tensely disagreeing over the matter of RCMP forces. The RCMP was accused of misleading the public about how many officers were made available to the city to deal with the Freedom convoy by Watson’s chief of staff.
Now, after this clear show of disagreement, even if Justin Trudeau tries to make everyone believe that there was unity in the Liberal party, city or provincial authorities when it comes to invoking the emergency act, one can smell something fishy here.
The investigation has begun to depict the police and other levels of the government’s disorganized response to the incident after only a few days of testimony.
Meanwhile, conservatives in the opposition are going ahead with claims that the government did not meet the legal requirements and that using the act to address what amounted to citizens properly expressing their displeasure with the administration was an overreach.
Many of the party’s MPs also publicly backed the protesters when they occupied the streets around Parliament Hill.
Trudeau has now stated that there will be many more details to come as the inquiry continues, but to him, the key is what happened to bring the events to an end.
Most believe Trudeau’s use of federal powers to invoke the Emergency Act was unconstitutional and that there was no legal ground to do so. They believe that the federal government has exceeded their jurisdiction both constitutionally and legislatively.

But now, the time has come when Justin Trudeau himself acknowledged that the liberal party itself didn’t work in tandem with Trudeau’s invoking of the Emergencies Act. Now, this insinuates some serious infighting within the Liberal party and Canadian authorities on different levels. The act already received condemnation from all over the world, and now the inquiries have proved that even the liberals weren’t in support. This clearly indicates that the Liberal party will fall apart and Justin Trudeau will be reduced to an ostracised leader.
