Virpur Jalaram Temple- Overview

Jalaram Bapa Temple is a famous temple located in Virpur, Gujarat. The place has become famous because of the birth of the much-revered saint Shri Jalaram Bapa. Many incidents have happened in the life of this saint at Veerpur and people from far and wide come to visit this holy shrine.

It is the only temple in the world which is not accepting any kind of donation since the year 2000 and offers Prasad of Khichdi and Kadhi 2 times daily to all the devotees, and to needy people and tourists it is given free of cost. About 10000 people take this Prasad everyday.

History of this Temple

‘Jalaram Pradhan Thakkar’ or Jalaram Bapa was born on 14 November 1799 at Virpur near Rajkot in Gujarat to his father Pradhan Thakkar and mother Rajbai Thakkar. His mother was very fond of saints and sadhus and no saint could leave Veerpur without receiving the hospitality of Rajbai.

Saint Raghuvirdasji told Bapa’s mother, Rajabai Thakkar, that her son would become a famous person preaching the importance of duty, devotion and good deeds.

In 1978, the Virpur Jalaram Bapa temple was built on the Dharmaj-Tarapur highway. Shubh Shree Jalaram Bapa temple comprises the actual house complex where this great saint lived during his lifetime. Jalaram Bapa has many belongings, the most important being the deities of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman which he worshipped. The main attraction of this place of worship is the picture of Jalaram Bapa. Pilgrims can see a black and white photograph of Bapa which was taken a year before his death.

Virpur Jalaram Temple Timings

Virpur Jalaram Bapa temple opens at 7:00am to 12:00noon in the morning and 4.00 pm to 8.30 pm in the evening.

Place to visit near Virpur Jalaram Temple

Veerpara Nath Temple- Every tourist visiting Jalaram Bapa must visit this temple. Sadhus sing bhajans in the evening in this temple complex.

Jalaram Bapa’s Samadhi – This is a sacred place of worship as devotees come here to pay their respects to Jalaram Bapa. He was put to sleep here after his father passed away.

Jetha Bapa Ki Samadhi – This is another famous temple which is situated close to Jalaram Bapa Temple. There are many pilgrims who visit the Samadhi and seek blessings from Jetha Bapa.

Veerbhai Maa Temple at Triveni Sangam – This is a temple dedicated to Veerbhai and celebrates the commitment and sacrifice made by Veerbhai.

Khodiyar Temple in Mavtar Old Age Home- Being located in Mavtar Old Age Home, this temple is highly popular and considered holy among the natives.

Gala Vada Hanuman – It is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and worships his strength and commitment towards Lord Rama.

How to reach this Temple

By Air- Nearest airport from Virpur Jalaram Temple is Rajkot airport which connects Virpur to all major cities of India. Several direct flights are available and from here you can take auto-rickshaws to reach this famous temple.

By Train- Nearest railway station from this temple is Rajkot Junction. This is well connected to various cities of Gujarat and another city of India. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services.

By Road- It has good transport system with all the neighboring states. There are many state buses which runs from Rajkot to different parts of Gujarat. ST Bus Stand is 2 km to the west of Bedi Gate, on the other side of Ranmal Lake.
