Sharda Mandir Satna – Guide

Sharda Mandir Satna is located in Maihar city in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. This temple is considered one of the Shaktipeeths of Mata. The temple of Maa Sharda, the revered form of Maa Durga, who is also famous as ‘Maihar Devi Mata,’ is situated on the Trikuta hill at a height of about 600 feet in Maihar city. Devotees reach here to have darshan of Mata and seek her blessings in the same way as they go to visit Maa Vaishno Devi in ​​Jammu. One has to climb 1063 steps to reach the temple of Maa Maihar Devi.

History of this Temple

There is an ancient inscription near the Sharda Mandir Satna. There is an idol of Lord Narasimha along with Sharada Devi. These idols were installed by Nupula Deva on Saka 424 Chaitra Krishna Paksha, 14 Tuesday, Vikram Samvat 559 i.e., 502 AD. This four-line inscription in Devanagari script is of size “3.5” to 15”. The idol of Mata Sharda has been established on Vikram Samvat 559.

An inscription in Devanagari script is also inscribed on the idol. It has been said in this that Damodar, the son of Saraswati, will be called Vyas Muni of Kali Yuga. The world’s renowned historian Cunningham had researched this temple in detail. The practice of sacrificing in this temple was going on since ancient times, but in 1922, King Brajnath Judeo of Satna completely banned animal sacrifice.
