History of this Temple

Khajrana Ganesh Mandir Indore was built in 1735 by Queen Ahilya Bai Holkar of the Holkar dynasty. The main idol installed in Khajrana Ganesh Temple is of Lord Shri Ganesh, about which this story and belief is prevalent that- During the time of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, when his terror increased to a great extent, the Ganesha idol was hidden on the ground to save it from destruction.

When everything calmed down and the concealers themselves forgot this matter, then Swayambhu Ganapati himself informed a local priest of that time Mr. Mangal Bhatt in a dream. Mangal Bhatt told about his dream to Queen Ahilya Bai Holkar, who was ruling at that time. Taking Pandit’s words seriously, the queen got the excavation done at the mentioned place, and from there this Ganesha idol of stone age was actually found.
