Redi Ganapati Mandir Ratnagiri – Guide
The Redi Ganapati Mandir at Redi is located about 30 km from Vengurla in the coastal district of Ratnagiri in the Konkan region. The deity of the temple is the seated form of Lord Ganesha and is about 15 meters in height. The most amazing thing is that the idol was recovered from beneath the earth after a local man had a dream of the buried idol of the god and started digging the area.
History of this Temple
On April 18, 1976, Sadanand Nagesh Kambli, a truck driver, parked his truck at a particular spot. This truck used to go from Reddy’s mine to the port. The trucker fell asleep there and had a dream. In the dream, Lord Ganesha gave him divine form and asked him to dig at the same place, as he is residing there. He had great faith in Lord Ganesha.
As per his dream, he started digging there and to the amazement of all the villagers, there was a solid two-handed idol of Lord Ganesha carved in the rock appeared. The date was 1 May 1976. After seeking an omen from the village-deity, it was decided to build Redi Ganapati Mandir at the same place and establish this deity.
