Sangli Ganpati Mandir is a sacred Hindu temple located in the Ganapati Peth area of ​​the city of Sangli, Maharashtra. It is one of the major temples of Maharashtra, and one of the popular places to visit near Kolhapur. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Sangli Ganpati Mandir is situated on the eastern bank of the Krishna River.

History of this Temple

The construction of Sangli Ganpati Mandir was started in 1814 by Chintamanrao Patwardhan, the first chief of Sangli, to honour the patron deity of Sangli city. The construction of this temple took 30 years and was completed in 1845. The king installed the idol of Lord Ganesha in this temple itself.

In 1952, a red stone arch was built in front of the Ganesha temple. The rest of the temple was completed during the reign of Chintamani Rao II. Vijay Singh Patwardhan has recently renovated and altered this temple. This temple is known as a masterpiece of Peshwa architecture, the main temple is made of black stones which are brought from the Jyotiba hills.

Bahubali Jain Temple is one of the main places to visit near Sangli. There is a 28 feet tall statue of Lord Shri Bahubali in this temple. This statue was established in 1963.
