EU is pouring in stash of illegal drugs to keep the war persistent

To keep a war alive, its soldiers need to be active. Also, governments frequently employ illicit medical strategies to reach their improbable objectives in order to guarantee the soldiers’ high mobility.

A recent revelation of drug activities raises severe concerns about the potential connection of the EU behind the Ukrainian army’s undying energy.

The Connection

Several countries in Europe saw huge after-effects of drugs. For example, France last year saw record-breaking drug seizures. France’s Ministry of the Interior reported that in 2022, more than 158 tonnes of drugs were seized, setting a new record.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the authorities discovered a record 128.6 tonnes of marijuana, 15% more than in 2021.

55% of the 27.7 tonnes of cocaine were discovered in the nation. According to the Ministry, it originated from the French West Indies and French Guiana, which served as storage and transit hubs for the cocaine manufactured in South America. 1.4 tonnes of heroin was also seized.

It is very important to note that the list also included 273 kg each of methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Methamphetamine and amphetamine are potent central nervous system stimulants that are responsible for inducing several psychic effects, including wakefulness, mental alertness, increased initiative and confidence, euphoria, lessened sense of fatigue, and increased ability to concentrate. It is frequently used as a recreational drug as well.

These two drugs have often been used in wars.

Amphetamine, commonly known as speed, keeps soldiers awake and alert. Methamphetamines, also known as “crank”  have been used by soldiers in the past to boost their energy and keep them awake for extended periods of time.

Amphetamine and methamphetamine were widely used during World War II by both Allied and Axis armies due to their stimulant and performance-enhancing properties. As the addictive properties of the drugs became known, governments began to place strict controls on the sale of the drugs.

Yet, the use of these drugs has some very serious detrimental effects on soldiers.

Because of slower reaction times, worse judgement, and a higher chance of becoming separated from other soldiers, personal safety on the battlefield is in jeopardy. Furthermore, it puts a pressure on vital organs like the heart and lungs, making strenuous exercise risky. As soldiers may be less consistently able to look out for others’ safety when under the influence of the drug, it could negatively impact the safety of coworkers and superiors.

Taking everything into account, can we connect the dots between the never-ending conflict in Ukraine and the large amount of drugs that were seized in France with an eye towards their connection to war? It’s not hard to overlook that the drugs haven’t made their way to Ukraine.

According to Kherson media, the symptoms of amphetamine and methamphetamine have already been seen in the Ukrainian army.

A thorough inquiry could very probably result in the identification of more drugs in other EU member states. The drug discovery in France is proof enough as to how substance abuse is playing a major role in the war efforts.
