Maa Kanaka Durga Mandir – Guide
Maa Kanaka Durga Mandir is a Hindu temple located in Vijayawada in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. This temple is one of the famous temples of Andhra Pradesh. This temple is completely dedicated to Goddess Durga. This temple is situated on the Indrakeeladri hill on the banks of river Krishna. Goddess Kanaka Durga is mentioned in Kalika Purana, Durga Saptashati and other Vedic literature. Kanak Devi has been described as self-manifested.
History of this Temple
According to history when the demons wreaked havoc on the earth. Then Mother Parvati took different forms to kill the demons. She assumed the form of Kaushiki to kill Shumbha and Nishumbha, Mahishasuramardini to kill Mahishasura and Durga to kill Durgamasura. Kanaka Durga ordered her devotee to be installed in the form of a mountain so that he could reside there. While killing Mahishasura on the Indrakiladri mountain, Mata sits in the arms of eight arms, riding on a lion.
