Janaki Mandir Janakpur – Guide

Janaki Mandir is a Hindu temple in Janakpur in the Mithila region of Nepal, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Sita. The temple is an example of Hindu-Koiri Nepalese architecture. It is often regarded as the most important model of Koiri architecture in Nepal. Built entirely in dazzling white and in a mixed style of Mughal and Koiri domes, it is constructed over an area of 4,860 square feet.

History of this Temple

The Janaki Mandir Janakpur was completed in the year 1911. Spread over 4860 square feet, this temple was built by Queen Kumari Vrishbhanu of Tikamgarh. Earlier there used to be a forest where Shurkishor Das had come to perform penance. During his stay here, he found an idol of Mother Sita, which was made of gold. It was he who established it there.
