History of this Temple

According to religious history, Lord Shiva’s father-in-law once organized a Yagya at his place and did not invite Lord Shankar and Mata Sati to participate in it, yet Mata Sati went to participate in that Yagya. Lord Shankar was humiliated a lot there in front of Mata Sati, Mata Sati could not tolerate this insult and Mata Sati jumped into the Havan Kund there.

After that, Lord Shiva took out Mother Sati from that Havan Kund and started doing Tandav. Due to this orgy, there was havoc in the whole universe. Then to avoid this devastation, Lord Vishnu started his Sudarshan Chakra and divided the body of Mata Sati into 51 parts. After which the parts of Mata Sati where they fell were named according to that part. According to this legend, the navel part of the body of Mata Sati had fallen here.
