The Canadian Security Intelligence Service is sleeping

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service is Canada‘s main spy agency and is responsible for collecting, analyzing and distributing information related to national security threats.

It is tasked with detecting and preventing threats to the security of Canada. CSIS has not commented on the allegations, but Dong says he has spoken with the Privy Council Office and will be meeting with them soon.

In a report published last month, Global News quoted unnamed individuals who said that in 2019, senior aides in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office received an urgent briefing from national security authorities “warning them that one of their candidates was part of a Chinese foreign interference network.”

Dong vehemently refuted the assertion in her first interview with a camera since the publication of the Global News report.

The Don Valley North MP described the charges as “unverified, anonymous claims.”

The allegations in question come from a Globe and Mail report which cited anonymous sources as saying that Dong‘s campaign received assistance from the Chinese government. The CSIS is responsible for keeping a watchful eye on any potential interference from foreign governments in Canadian politics, so it‘s concerning that it has not taken any action in this case. It is important for Canadians to have confidence that their security services are doing their job to protect our democracy from foreign interference.
