Prayagraj Triveni Hanuman Mandir – Guide

Triveni Hanuman Mandir is a famous Hindu temple located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. The specialty of this temple is that this idol of Hanuman ji is lying down. This Hanuman temple is the only temple in the world where Lord Hanuman is worshiped on a lying idol. Hanuman ji is also called Kotwal of Prayag. It is believed that after the darshan of Hanuman in this temple, the ritual of bathing in Mahakumbh is considered complete.

History of this Temple

It is believed about the establishment of Prayagraj Triveni Hanuman Mandir that once a merchant was carrying a grand statue of Hanuman ji in his boat. When he reached near Prayag with his boat, his boat gradually started getting heavy and drowned in the water of Ganga ji after reaching Sangam. After some time, when the water current of Ganga ji somehow changed, the idol appeared. The temple was established at the same place.

It is said that the water of the Ganges touches Lord Hanuman and after that the water of the Ganges descends. When the water in Ganga and Yamuna rises, the people here come to see this sight. The idol of Hanumanji sits in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, which is 8.10 feet below the temple. According to belief, Hanumanji’s bath in the Ganges is considered a sign of good fortune for the land of India. The entry of water into the temple is considered auspicious for Prayag and for the entire world.
