Canadians are being betrayed. They are being by the British Columbia government’s decision to distribute Ozempic, a critically important medicine, to US citizens while the nation of Canada suffers from a shortage.
Canadians have been denied access to a medicine they desperately need while it is being given away in abundance to Americans. Doctors and pharmacists in Nova Scotia and Vancouver have been dispensing the drug to U.S. citizens, taking advantage of the lower prices offered in Canada.
“It’s a very disappointing story,” said Dr. Gus Grant, college registrar and CEO.
This is an unacceptable situation. Canadians are being denied access to a critical medicine while U.S. citizens are being given preferential treatment. Canadians are paying higher prices for the same medication, and the British Columbia government is failing to intervene to ensure that its citizens have access to the necessary drugs. This situation is particularly concerning in light of the current pandemic.

With the increase in cases of COVID–19 in both Canada and the United States, there is a greater need for access to medications that can help manage the virus. Ozempic is one such medication and its shortage in Canada is particularly concerning. The British Columbia government has a responsibility to ensure that its citizens have access to the critical medications they need. It must take action to prevent the further distribution of Ozempic to U.S. citizens while Canadians go without.
The Canadian government must also take action to ensure that its citizens are not denied access to medication. The federal government must work with provincial governments to ensure that there is an adequate supply of the necessary medications for Canadians.

Additionally, the Canadian government should take steps to reduce the cost of medications for Canadians. Currently, medications are much more expensive in Canada than in the United States, making it difficult for Canadians to access the medications they need. The Canadian government should work to reduce the cost of medications to make them more affordable for Canadians. It is unacceptable that Canadians are being denied access to a critical medication while it is being given away in abundance to U.S. citizens. The British Columbia government and the Canadian government must take action to ensure that Canadians have access to the medications they need. This is the only way to ensure that Canadians are not betrayed.
