Sun Temple Modhera – Guide
The Sun Temple of Modhera is situated at a distance of about 30 km from Patan district. This temple was built by Maharaja Bhima I of the Solanki dynasty in 1026 AD. In this temple, which is said to be a unique example of architecture, from the calculations of the sun to the Ramayana, the picture is clearly visible on the stones.
This Sun Temple of Modhera is about 1200 years old, but the scientific methods and Sanatani values on which it was built, tells how advanced our ancient civilization was. It is said that by multiplying the number of 12 zodiac signs and 9 constellations, 12×9 = 108 temples were built in this temple.
Apart from this, there are dance halls and conservatories. There are a total of 52 pillars in the Nritya Mandap which represent the 52 weeks of the year. Like many other Indian temples, this temple was also demolished during the period of aalauddin Khilji. The damaged temple structure has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
