Mehsana Surya Mandir – Guide
Mehsana Surya Mandir is a temple which is dedicated to lord sun. This temple is located on the banks of river Pushpapati in Modhera village of Mehsana, Gujarat. This Sun Temple has a unique architecture and craftsmanship in India and is famous in all over the country for this uniqueness. This temple is preserved under the Archaeological Survey of India. Historians said that Alauddin Khilji destroyed the temple.
History of this Temple
Surya Mandir Mehsana was build by the king of chokhua Kingdom bhimdev 1 during the period of 1027-28 AD. The temple has been constructed at a latitude of 23.6 degree. This temple was constructed in such a way that the first ray of the sun illuminates the sanctum sanctorum of the temple during sunrise. Many Mandap were built inside this temple. In front of the Sabha Mandap, there is a huge kund which is known by the name of Suryakund or Ramkund. Different small and big temples are also built inside the kund, which are dedicated to deities, such as Goddess Sheetlamata, Ganesha, Shiva and Vishnu and other deities.
Mehsana Surya Mandir Timings
Mehsana Surya Mandir opens at 8:00 AM in the morning and close at 7:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 9:00 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 6:00 PM in the evening.
