Italy is bringing back its nuclear might amid a fast disintegrating EU

Italy Nuclear energy: The EU was once a shiny new toy meant to unite the continent like a big, happy family. But just like a dysfunctional family, old grudges and power struggles are threatening to tear it apart. It’s like a game of Jenga, but instead of pulling out blocks, countries are pulling out of treaties and agreements.

And with the ghosts of two world wars still haunting them, one can only hope they don’t resort to throwing punches like a bunch of bickering siblings.

“We live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and nobody among you wants to stay here,” German Chancellor Merz Faces Backlash Over Insensitive Comments About Brazil’s COP30 Host City

The problem is simple: the member states just can’t seem to agree on anything. Poland is a good example. It seeks to assemble the biggest army in all of Europe. larger than Germany and France. Hungary follows afterward. Additionally, it aims to rival the USA.

But the most surprising thing to come out of this mess is recent decision of Italy to bring back its nuclear might. That’s right. Italy is going nuclear.

Italy restarts its Nuclear energy

For those of you who don’t know, Italy had a nuclear energy programme in the past. They even had a nuclear weapons programme in the 1960s and 1970s. But they shut it all down in 1990 after the Chernobyl disaster.

Now, Italy is considering reopening its nuclear programme. Why, you ask? Well, it’s less about the energy crisis and more about the cold war between Rome and Brussels.

Reportedly, the Lower House of Italy approved a motion presented by the ruling majority telling the government to consider reopening Italy to nuclear energy.

If this happens, Italy would be taking a really massive step towards its goal of self-reliance, and it would be a big blow to the European Union.

Meloni’s Anti-Germany Stance

Recently, the European Union has been pushing to eliminate nuclear energy from the bloc. Yes, the EU had decided to give nuclear energy the cold shoulder, leaving it in the dark like a forgotten nightlight. Germany even took it a step further by shutting down its last three reactors, putting a damper on the nuclear party.

But Italy did the exact opposite. For those unaware, Italian Prime Minister Meloni has been a vociferous opponent of the European Union. She claims that Brussels has traditionally served as Berlin’s spokesperson. They simply follow Germany’s instructions. Giorgia Meloni, the current prime minister of Italy, is not a fan of European imperialism.

She is a staunch conservative who values independence. She has been advocating for Italy to regain its previous splendor.

And so, she consistently remains at odds with Germany. It’s like watching a game of chess. Germany makes a move, and Italy counters with its own. But, instead of pawns and knights, they’re using nuclear energy

But, let’s not forget the real issue. The EU is falling apart faster than a cannonball. The calls for an exit are getting louder, and Germany’s influence is slowly but surely waning.

The EU was designed to unite European nations and put an end to centuries of conflict. Unfortunately, it seems to be falling apart instead. It’s a slow-motion disaster, with many countries pursuing their own agendas and ignoring the bloc’s interests.

It started with Merkel’s policies and is now being exacerbated by conservative movements. If the EU doesn’t figure out a way to come together soon, it may be too late to prevent its eventual collapse.
