One thing is now fairly obvious following the conclusion of the Alberta elections. The Prairies is currently a very difficult nut for the liberals to crack. JT nevertheless persists in his determination and senseless behaviour.
The prairies have never been fond of Trudeau and his Liberal policies. From energy to agriculture, their grievances have been piling up faster than snow drifts in January. The infamous carbon tax and perceived favouritism towards other provinces have only deepened the disdain felt by the prairie residents.
It’s no wonder that Trudeau’s government suffered a monumental blow in the recent Alberta elections, with the Liberals barely clinging to seventh place, trailing even behind a wacko street preacher.
It’s crystal clear that the prairies despise Trudeau, and who can blame them? After all, he’s been threatening their lifelines – farming, and oil. But now, Trudeau has performed an incredible U-turn, like a circus contortionist trying to fit into a too-tight political suit.
The Trans Mountain pipeline, once frozen and left to gather dust, is suddenly back in the spotlight.
Reviving the phoenix
According to media reports, Trudeau’s government recently approved an additional C$3 billion to finish the expansion project of the Trans Mountain pipeline.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland had previously declared a funding freeze on the pipeline. But lo and behold, the Liberals have discovered a newfound love for this controversial project. Of course, they assure us that it’s all about the long-term energy infrastructure of Canada.
How noble! Yet, it’s hard to ignore the fact that this sudden shift in stance conveniently coincides with Trudeau’s realisation that prairie wrath could spread like wildfire across the country if not extinguished promptly.

A Stupid Gamble
Trudeau seems to believe that by appeasing the prairies with the resurrection of the Trans Mountain pipeline, he can win their favour. But let’s not be fooled. The prairies are a tough crowd to please. This grand gesture may seem like a silver bullet to Trudeau, but it’s more like a rusty nail in his political coffin.
The prairies have endured years of neglect and a feeling of being left behind. They won’t be swayed by a mere pipeline revival. Trudeau needs to show genuine concern and take concrete actions to address their concerns, rather than just playing political theatre. The bridge he needs to build requires more than just a showy performance.
It’s true that buying the Trans Mountain pipeline was a risky move for Trudeau’s government. And as the next election looms, it remains a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode. Unless Trudeau can prove that his intentions are sincere, this desperate attempt to woo the prairies will fall flat on its face.
