Dear Pierre Poilievre “Let us Indians acquaint you with WhatsApp Media Agenda”

It is no secret that the media frequently shapes the opinions and beliefs of the general public. They delicately build the narrative they want the world to see, choose what is reported, and shape the news. This also gives them the power to distort vision and give the audience an altered impression of reality, to expose specific chapters of a story.

And as odd as it sounds, Canada has managed to master this art. The Canadian media giants – CBC, CTV, and Global News have become mere puppets in the hands of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, fondly known as CBC, has, in fact, earned the rather unflattering title of “Justin Trudeau’s Spokesman.” It’s almost as if they’re on a mission to champion the liberal government’s agenda, serving it up to Canadians like it’s the holy grail of information.

One can hardly remember when CBC last took a scathing jibe at Justin Trudeau. It’s a sorry state of affairs indeed.

A Calculated Attack

Just recently, the Canadian media behemoths – CBC, Global News, and even CTV – decided to do a synchronized play that caught the eye of the Conservative Party. The Canadian media published an article with a catchy title, ‘Poilievre’s Conservative Party Embracing Language of Mainstream Conspiracy Theories.’

The article focused solely on the narrative that the opposition leader, Pierre Poilievre, is diving headfirst into the world of conspiracy theories surrounding the World Economic Forum (WEF). What’s curious is that the article somehow forgot to include any actual evidence of their own claims, leaving readers with a puzzle piece missing.

For the unaware, Pierre Poilievre is putting WEF in his crosshairs, boldly proclaiming that he and his ministers won’t grace the organization’s conferences, including the glamorous annual Davos gathering. He firmly believes that the WEF wants to meddle in Canadian government and democracy.

And so, all Canadian media which is actually a fan of WEF is losing patience with Poilivere. But here’s a curveball – didn’t Schwab himself admit to infiltrating various governments’ inner sanctums?

Poilievre Strikes Back

It took no time for the Conservative Party to snap back at this media stunt. Pierre Poilievre minced no words, claiming that Trudeau’s media minions were desperately trying to halt his downfall.

In his words, “Today, CBC’s news service CP wrote a hit piece on me because I dared criticize the World Economic Forum—a group of multinational CEOs and powerful politicians that push their interests. I work for our people in this country and will bring home our democracy—without apology.”

Pierre, with his determination to bar cabinet members from the Davos dance, had unwittingly set himself up as a bullseye for the liberal party’s arrows. One could even say it was a well-choreographed attack. But honestly, Pierre is not alone.

While Pierre might think he’s a lone ranger in this frustrating game, he’s not the only one to fall prey to such tactics. Remember Donald Trump? How the American media hastened his ouster. Yet, what Pierre is experiencing resonates quite well with the Indian playbook.

Allow us to introduce you to the WhatsApp Media Agenda – a strategy perfected by the Indian media Lutyens.

When leaders stick around for the long haul, they create an echo chamber where only their tunes are sung. Like Canada, India once had its own echo chamber too.

Pierre’s Familiarity with Modi

Prior to 2014, the UPA, led by the Congress party, had quite the hold on Indian media houses – the likes of Deccan Herald, NDTV, and others sang to their tunes. Journalists such as Barkha Dutt, Ravish Kumar, Prannoy Roy, Vinod Dua, and more, held the reigns of narrative control.

Fast forward to 2014, India had its own Pierre Poilievre moment with the rise of Narendra Modi. The so-called Lutyens journalists tried every trick in the book to tarnish his image during the elections. Yet, Modi emerged victorious, unfazed by the media’s shenanigans.

But these “Lutyens” didn’t retreat; instead, they doubled down. Armed with power and influence, they manipulated media narratives to suit their whims. They peddled negative views on Modi’s government, dishing out spicy bits on lynching, Hindutva, and the like of persecution of minorities in India.

You might get surprised at how did they do this. They pulled the strings of their narrative via WhatsApp groups, attempting to cater to their former masters. All of the articles and tweets which were to be shared were peddled by a mere chat group.

But Modi, the mastermind, outsmarted them. He focused on the welfare of the people, disregarded the cacophony, and let the “lutyens” media’s cries fall on deaf ears. Right now, no one in India worries about what all these eco-chamber ministers have to say.

So, Pierre Poilievre, here’s a piece of advice – let them do what they want to do. Keep yourself out of their glare. Your goal is to win Canada in 2025 and after that, it is your time to destroy the ecochamber with grace.

Till then, leave the orchestrated noise behind and march onward. The world of media is a stage, and you, are the lead actor and right now, the antagonists are after you.
