Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her disagreement with French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent remarks on sending troops to Ukraine. Meloni reiterated her stance against direct military involvement on the Rete4 talk show.
“I did not agree with Emmanuel Macron’s words about the Ukraine conflict and I told him so,” she said. “I am convinced that we must pay attention to the tones we use.”

She also addressed media speculation about Europe preparing for war, clarifying that recent discussions at an EU summit on civil protection focused solely on coordinated actions for protecting the population during natural disasters.
The summit was “exclusively about coordinated actions on protecting the population in the event of natural disasters,” she said.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also dismissed the notion shortly after Macron’s statement, affirming that there are no plans for troop deployment to Ukraine.
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina emphasized during a joint press conference with Scholz that NATO member states are not prepared for discussions regarding the deployment of ground forces.

Moscow cautioned that NATO troops in Ukraine could escalate tensions, leading to a direct confrontation between Russia and the US-led bloc. Russia views the Ukraine conflict as a proxy war instigated by the West, arguing that NATO’s support for Kiev prolongs hostilities.
President Vladimir Putin dismissed claims that Russia would target NATO states as “nonsense” and warned that Russian forces would treat Western troops as invaders if deployed to Ukraine, responding accordingly.
