President Donald Trump has signed an executive order creating the Department of Government Efficiency to modernize federal technology and improve productivity. The initiative called the “DOGE Agenda,” aims to enhance government software and IT infrastructure.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk will lead the department. The United States Digital Service (USDS) has been renamed the United States DOGE Service (USDS) and placed under the Executive Office of the President. A temporary organization within USDS will advance the 18-month DOGE agenda and dissolve on July 4, 2026.
Each federal agency must form a “DOGE Team” of at least four employees, including a lead, an engineer, a human resources specialist, and an attorney. These teams will coordinate with USDS and provide guidance on implementing the agenda. The USDS Administrator will oversee a Software Modernization Initiative to enhance government-wide software, IT systems, and data security.
Agency Heads are required to grant USDS full access to unclassified records and IT systems while maintaining strict data protection standards. The executive order supersedes previous orders that could hinder USDS access.
First, it was decided that Tesla founder and Trump’s close, Elon Musk, along with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, would handle the DOGE, but due to his personal political ambitions, as he cited, quite the department.
Ramaswamy, a driving force behind DOGE, was instrumental in crafting this flagship initiative of Trump’s ‘Save America’ agenda. The department aims to reduce federal jobs, slash redundant programs, and cut through bureaucratic inefficiencies, which are important for Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) mission.

Following Trump’s inauguration, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy announced he would not co-head the department with Musk. In a post on X, he expressed confidence in Musk’s leadership and hinted at future plans in Ohio. He is gearing up for a gubernatorial run in Ohio’s 2026 election. A Cincinnati native, Ramaswamy has his eyes set on reshaping Ohio’s political landscape with his conservative values and entrepreneurial spirit.
DOGE is an experiment that brings efficacy to the American system. People should wait and watch the results of it in the coming years of the Trump Administration in the US.
