Tech visionary Elon Musk, founder of Tesla, SpaceX, and owner of X (formerly Twitter), concluded his impactful 130-day tenure as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on Friday. Musk described his time leading DOGE as a success, adding that the team he built will continue to grow and drive innovation in government. “This is not the end of DOGE,” Musk said. “I will continue to be visiting here and be a friend and adviser to the president.”
Shortly after his announcement, The New York Times published a sensationalized report focusing on unfounded allegations about Musk’s health. The piece, based on anonymous sources and speculative claims, accused Musk of excessive drug use—despite Musk’s previous transparency regarding his prescribed treatment for depression. He has openly acknowledged taking low doses of ketamine under medical supervision, and in 2012 publicly stated that years of SpaceX testing found “not even trace quantities” of drugs or alcohol in his system.
Musk, known for his relentless work ethic and trailblazing efforts in space exploration, AI, and transportation, dismissed the Times report during a White House press event. When asked by a reporter, Musk refused to legitimize the claims, criticizing the publication as “the same one that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on Russiagate.” Many of his supporters on X pointed out that The New York Times has a history of targeting public figures with politically charged narratives.
This isn’t the first time Musk has been the subject of such reports. Similar claims surfaced in 2018 and 2023, yet none have produced conclusive evidence or led to any formal action against Musk or his companies. In fact, Musk’s leadership has overseen groundbreaking achievements in space travel, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure.
While some media outlets attempt to distract from Musk’s accomplishments, he remains focused on progress and innovation. His contributions continue to redefine entire industries, and he shows no signs of slowing down—even as he hands off his role at DOGE to the next generation of government reformers.
