As much as Republicans may argue otherwise, this is not the case here: the president has no right to a summary judgment. In particular, they threaten to hold a trial without witnesses, which will not be a trial at all.
But this is not the only practical reason why they should not shorten the process. So common sense should tell senators that even if Trump is acquitted in an abbreviated trial, it will not interfere with evidence that the acquittal was fair. If anything downplayed or downplayed the trial in which Trump was charged, it was the Republican House’s refusal to take the trial with all the seriousness required by the Constitution.
